Munsee Three Sister's Farm in Andover, NJ!
When we first met chief at the Munsee Three Sisters farm, his emphasis on having strong convictions, doing the right thing, and standing up for one's principles taught us the value of integrity and the significance of staying true to oneself. When we were appreciating the beautiful mural of the sisters, he explained that they stood for corn, bean, and squash, the physical and spiritual sustainers of life. We were amazed by the history of indigenous food system - corn provides a tall stalk for the beans to climb, beans fix nitrogen in the soil (benefiting all three crops), and squash leaves provide shade and inhibit weed growth.
This is a powerful metaphor for life and illustrates how we are better together than apart!
